Сегдодня крупный производитель виртуальных решений VMware представил бесплатную версию VMware Server. Данное ПО создает виртуальные машины и позволяет эмулировать веб или файл-сервер для следующих систем: MS-DOS 6, Windows 3.1, 9x, ME, 2000, XP, различные Linux-Дистрибутивы, FreeBSD, Netware, Solaris и Windows Vista (на даный момент в качестве тест-версии). VMware поддерживаeт х86 базирующиееся системы Windows и Linux а также 32 и 64 битные процессоры. Возможности виртуализации сервера позволяют эмулировать 3,6 GB оперативной памяти, 4 виртуальных IDE винчестера, 21 виртуальных SCSI приводов с соответствующими адаптерами и 4 сетевых карты. Программа доступна для систем Linux и Windows и занимает около 145 мб.
