Incredible pictures show the dramatic moment rescuers met a deputy sheriff off who spent minutes bravely battling choppy seas to keep a teenage surfer's head above water and pulled the two to safety. Deputy Terry Brown kept the year-old boy identified only as Joshua afloat off Southern Oregon's coast after he got caught in a rip current on Monday and the two are now recovering from hypothermia at Sutter Coast Hospital. The teen was in only around three-feet of water at Harris Beach, north of Brookings when he got pulled out by the current and was kept alive for nearly an hour by Brown until help arrived.

I've only been to Oregon with my husband in either the very late fall or early spring so that he could go deep sea fishing. And it was too cool to really lay out on the beach or play in the water. Typically, our Oregon beaches are not condusive to sunbathing. However, August is about the best time for weather, so you could very well luck out. Even then though, you will not see many people laying out. You will see many people strolling the beach though and having picnics. My personal favorite is Cannon Beach. It is a very nice beach, with the town completely within walking distance. Haystack Rock is there and there are some very interesting tidepools there.
